Memoirs of my life…

I was born on 23 July 1932 at Lohamandi Agra U.P. India. I started primary education at the age of 4 years in a municipal school close to my house in Agra. After two years, I shifted to Shri RatanMuni Jain School at Lohamandi in Agra. After my 5th grade, I again moved to the Government High School in Agra where I stayed till High School. I completed my class 10th from UP Board of Education in 1949. Thereafter, I passed my intermediate (12th grade) from Agra College, Agra in 1951 from UP Board of Education. Thereafter, I pursued my B.A. in 1953 from Agra College, Agra. I was then enrolled for the M.A. In History at the same University in 1956. I also joined the M.A. Policitial science and LL.B (combined course) at the Agra University 1957. Because I was involved in a multitude of activities – curricular and social – including holding a position of the secretary of law at the University, I was unable to devote enough time to complete my combined course in M.A. And LL.B. During my college days l took keen interest in all the social & religious activities. I was a member of the executive

committee of Shri Rattan Muni Jain High School Lohamandi Agra, and was also the manager of the school in the year 1958. I took keen interest in all the activities of Jain Samaaj and due to my Father-in-law’s inspiration formed a Club of the Jains of Agra known as ” Jain Milan Agra”. This “Jain Milan had members from the elite and educated class of Jain Community of Agra. This Jain Milan was formed in the year 1962-63 and Mr. Jai Prakash Jain, Executive Engg. Of PWD Agra was the President and I was the Founder Treasurer of this Jain Milan Agra. In the year 1957 on the 1st December I was married to a beautiful and charming girl, Suman Jain, d/o Dev Kumar Jain of Kanpur- In the beginning I got engaged,in my old house, and after that all members of the house used to notice A very bright mysterious light in our house’ s courtyard even on moonless nights. We believed that Suman was very lucky for our family and also for me.

I was a strong Hindutva and Jain follower and participated in regular religious discourses, became a member of RSS at a very young age. I have also served several nights at the jail while I was still in school- this was a result of my participation in Satyagraha, due to the murder of Mahatama Gandhi by a Hindu and the mayhem that followed, when the government tried to ban the RSS. as I grew older, I interacted with members of the Parliament- Seth Achal Singh and Member of LA- Devki Nandan Bihav, who influenced my thoughts and strengthened alliance towards RSS. I found myself inclining towards the Congress line of thought. This led to me becoming a convener of Youth Congress in Agra in 1959.

I also attempted to sit for the civil services examinations at UP, but could not succeed. At that time, my life was at multiple crossroads. I was proposed as a suiter for my now wife- who’s picture (see below) was sent to me. Suman’s father – Mr D.K Jain was a renowned person in Kanpur, famous and influential and Suman was a beautiful and charming 19 year old girl. I considered myself lucky to be married to Suman and build ties with the family.

As fate would have it, I joined the iron and steel family business and was settled with my wife. Suman also pursued her studies- M.A. In Hindi from Agra Univerrsity in the year 1958-59. In the year 1960, we were blessed with a baby girl- my eldest daughter Dolly (Arti). As most girl do she proved to be a lucky charm to our family.  At that time, I was inspired by my father in law to diversify my business to Calcutta and commence operations in other cities as well. I also started a new line of business of railway iron/steel scrap trading. After Dolly, we were blessed with a second daughter, whom we named Pinki (Kavita) in 1962. In 1964, we had a baby boy – Vikram. And my youngest daughter Gauri was born in 1971 when I was settled in Kanpur. Life continued…

In 1965, we moved base to Jhansi where I continued with my old iron railway scrap business. My business trips were more frequent than ever to places like Dhaulpur, Bharatpur, Jaipur, Calcutta and Bombay. I also visited places like Lucknow, Gorakpur etc. to buy/auction scrap for my business. In another 5 years, my younger brother got married and settled in Jhansi. At this point, I shifted to Lucknow where I stayed for one year before finally moving to Kanpur in 1970.

While I was settled in Kanpur – closer to Suman’s family, my business trips were still as frequent. This gave Suman an opportunity to spend more time with her family. My kids were going to pre school. In 1975, I built my office in Coopergunj in Kanpur.  Moving to Kanpur also gave me an opportunity to join lions club international in the city. I joined Lions Club International Kanpur in 1970.My father- in-law inspired me and also sponsored my name for the membership. In the begging I had least interest in the Clubs activities due to my busy schedule of my Iron & Steel business. From the beginning till upto Ten years,I did not have interest in the Club activities. After 1980 I took keen interest in every activities of the Lions Club of Kanpur Ganges.I had always been in a good and respected position in my club.In the year 1985-86 I was elected Treasurer and in the year 1989-90 President of the club.In the year 1990-91,our District Governor Lion Vikram Khotari had nominated my name for the Zone- Chairman of the District Committee of the Lions Clubs of International. Thus I had also took active and keen part in every District activities of the Lions Club International. At last we succeeded in winning our best Lion member for District Governorship
Lion Annand Shanker Gupta is also a respected citizen of Kanpur. He also selected me for the District Cabinet Treasure on 1999-2000.I had always been participating in all the District level Clubs activities upto 2005-2006.After that there was a development of a dirty party politics in lion clubs International,so with our best friends of the clubs,we had resigned from the Lions Club international in the same year. Now with the sincere efforts of our Past District Governior Lion Annand Shanker Gupta,we had able to form a Lions Sewa Shansthan and purchased a Land at Kaka Dev Kanpur and than made a constitution of the Shansthan where I am one of the trustees.

My eldest daughter Arti got married in April 1985 to Mr. Shashi Kant Gupta who is now a sitting Judge at the high court of Allahabad. My second daughter Kavita got married in December 1985 to Mr. Anil Agarwal who is a reputed business man in Allahabad. Then my son got married in November 1992 to Seema Singhal followed by my youngest daughter Gauri who got married in May 1997 to Mr. Vivek Agarwal who is of a brilliant mind and was working in the USA at the time of the wedding and belongs to a reputed family in Allahabad. My youngest daughter Gauri who is now settled in the USA kept insisting that I along with her mother should visit her and stay with her for a few months. Gradually I started winding up my business here in India. In 2001 my wife and I visited the USA for the first time and stayed with my daughter Gauri for 2 months and 10 days. The second time we went in 2003 and stayed for 3 months and 23 days. The third time I went to the USA in 2005 and stayed there for 6 months. The forth time I visited in 2006/2007 and stayed for 5 months. The fifth time we visited in 2011 and stayed there for 6 months. The sixth time was in 2015 where i stayed for 4 and a half months. During these visits I travelled from east coast to the west coast. I saw the entire state of California from San Diego to San Francisco amongst others.

I am very lucky to have been blessed with a loving and caring family. My love for travel is still alive within me and I wish to see as much of this world as I can. Thanks to my children I have far away places which would not be possible otherwise. I thank god for giving me a beautiful family and a beautiful life.

Malibu

After visiting SOLVANG, we went to a city called Malibu. Malibu (/ˈmælɨb/) is an affluent beach city in Los Angeles CountyCalifornia. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,645. Malibu consists of a 21-mile (34 km)[11] strip of prime Pacific coastline. Nicknamed “the ‘Bu” by surfers and locals,[1][2][3] the community is famous for its warm, sandy beaches, and for being the home of many Hollywood movie stars and others associated with the entertainment industry. Signs around the city proclaim “27 miles of scenic beauty”, referring to Malibu’s original length of 27 miles (43 km) before the city was incorporated in 1991.Most Malibu residents live within a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1), which traverses the city, with some residents living up to a mile away from the beach up narrow canyons, and many more residents of the unincorporated canyon areas identifying Malibu as their hometown. The city is also bounded by Topanga to the east, the Santa Monica Mountains (Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and Woodland Hills) to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the south, and Ventura County to the west. Malibu’s beaches include Surfrider BeachZuma Beach, Malibu Beach, Topanga Beach, Point Dume Beach, County Line, and Dan Blocker Beach; its local parks include Malibu Bluffs Park[12] (formerly Malibu Bluffs State Park), Trancas Canyon Park, Las Flores Creek Park, and Legacy Park,[13]with neighboring parks Malibu Creek State ParkLeo Carrillo State Beach and Park,[14] Point Mugu State Park,[15] and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and neighboring state beach Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach,[16] which was once part of Old Malibu (before it became a city), and better known as pristine beaches, El Pescador, La Piedra and El Matador. We then walked around for a while, looking at all the shops, etc. and then we headed back to our car. All in all, this was a very nice and relaxing trip to Malibu.

Disneyland

I

Directly from Santa Monica, we headed to our final destination, Anaheim. Anaheim (pronounced /ˈænəhm/) is a city in Orange County, California, part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 336,265, making it the most populous city in Orange County and the 10th most populous city in California.[14]Anaheim is the second largest city in Orange County in terms of land area (after Irvine) and is known for its theme parks, sports teams, and convention center. After we reached the hotel, it was about 10:00, so we decided to go to sleep, so we could go to Disneyland the next day. The next day, pretty early in the morning, we went to Disneyland, which was about 30 mins. away from our hotel. Disneyland Park, originally Disneyland, is the first of two theme parksbuilt at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17, 1955. It is the only theme park designed and built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. It was originally the only attraction on the property; its name was changed to Disneyland Park to distinguish it from the expanding complex in the 1990s. Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (/ˈdɪzni/;[3] December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American entrepreneur, cartoonistanimatorvoice actor, and film producer. He was a prominent figure within the American animation industry and throughout the world, and is regarded as a cultural icon,[4]known for his influence and contributions to entertainment during the 20th century. As a Hollywood business mogul, he and his brother Roy O. Disney co -founded The Walt Disney Company.[5]As an animator and entrepreneur, Disney was particularly noted as a filmmaker and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created numerous famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy. Disney himself was the original voice for Mickey. During his lifetime, he won 22 Academy Awards and received four honorary Academy Awards from a total of 59 nominations, including a record of four in one year,[6] giving him more Oscar awards and nominations than any other individual in history. Disney also won seven Emmy Awards and gave his name to the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the US, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disney Resort. We watched a few parades, including a Christmas miracle, etc., and then we went on a bunch of rides. The “Happiest Homecoming on Earth” was an eighteen-month-long celebration (held through 2005 and 2006) of the fiftieth anniversary of the Disneyland Park, also celebrating Disneyland’s milestone throughout Disney parks worldwide. In 2004, the park underwent major renovations in preparation, restoring many classic attractions, notably Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Attractions that had been in the park on opening day had one ride vehicle painted gold, and the park was decorated with fifty Golden Mickey Ears. The celebration started on May 5, 2005 and ended on September 30, 2006, and was followed by the “Year of a Million Dreams” celebration, lasting twenty-seven months and ending on December 31, 2008. Disneyland Park consists of eight themed “lands” and a number of concealed backstage areas, and occupies approximately 85 acres (34 ha).[12] The park opened with Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland, and has since added New Orleans Square in 1966, Bear Country (later Critter Country) in 1972, and Mickey’s Toontown in 1993. In 1957, Holidayland, opened to the public with a 9 acres (3.6 ha) recreation area including a circus and baseball diamond, but was closed in late 1961. It is often referred to as the “lost” land of Disneyland. Throughout the park are ‘Hidden Mickeys‘, representations of Mickey Mouse heads inserted subtly into the design of attractions and environmental decor. An elevated berm supports the 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge Disneyland Railroad that circumnavigates the park. A new 14-acre land to be constructed at the park, Star Wars Land, was announced on August 15, 2015, at the 2015 D23 Expo by Disney CEO Bob Iger.[26]Adventureland is designed to recreate the feel of an exotic tropical place in a far-off region of the world. “To create a land that would make this dream reality”, said Walt Disney, “we pictured ourselves far from civilization, in the remote jungles of Asia and Africa.” Attractions include opening day’s Jungle Cruise, the “Temple of the Forbidden Eye” in Indiana Jones Adventure, and Tarzan’s Treehouse, which is a conversion of Swiss Family Treehouse from the Walt Disney film, Swiss Family RobinsonWalt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room which is located at the entrance to Adventureland is the first feature attraction to employ Audio-Animatronics, a computer synchronization of sound and robotics. New Orleans Square is based on 19th-century New Orleans, opened on July 24, 1966. It is very popular with Disneyland guests, as it is home to some of the park’s most popular attractions: Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion, with nighttime entertainment in Fantasmic!. This area is the home of the famous club 33. Frontier land recreates the setting of pioneer days along the American frontier. According to Walt Disney, “All of us have cause to be proud of our country’s history, shaped by the pioneering spirit of our forefathers. Our adventures are designed to give you the feeling of having lived, even for a short while, during our country’s pioneer days.” Frontierland is home to the Pinewood Indians band of animatronic Native Americans, who live on the banks of the Rivers of America. Entertainment and attractions include Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, and Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition. Frontierland is also home to the Golden Horseshoe Saloon, an Old West-style show palace, where the comedic troupe “Billy Hill and the Hillbillies” entertainsCritter Country opened in 1972 as “Bear Country”, and was renamed in 1988. Formerly the area was home to Indian Village, where indigenous tribespeople demonstrated their dances and other customs. Today, the main draw of the area is Splash Mountain, a log-flume journey inspired by the Uncle Remus stories of Joel Chandler Harris and the animated segments of Disney’s Academy Award-winning 1946 film, Song of the South. In 2003, a dark ride called The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh replaced the Country Bear Jamboree, which closed in 2001. The attraction is still open in Walt Disney World‘s Magic Kingdom.Fantasyland is the area of Disneyland of which Walt Disney said, “What youngster has not dreamed of flying with Peter Panover moonlit London, or tumbling into Alice’s nonsensical Wonderland? In Fantasyland, these classic stories of everyone’s youth have become realities for youngsters – of all ages – to participate in.” Fantasyland was originally styled in a medieval European fairground fashion, but its 1983 refurbishment turned it into a Bavarian village. Attractions include several dark rides, the King Arthur Carousel, and various family attractions. Fantasyland has the most fiber optics in the park; more than half of them are in Peter Pan’s Flight.[27] Sleeping Beauty’s Castle features a walk-through story telling of Briar Rose’s adventure as Sleeping Beauty. The attraction opened in 1959, was redesigned in 1972, closed in 1992 for reasons of security and the new installation of pneumatic ram firework shell mortars for “Believe, There’s Magic in the Stars”, and reopened 2008 with new renditions and methods of storytelling and the restored work. Mickey’s Toontown opened in 1993 and was partly inspired by the fictional Los Angeles suburb of Toontown in the Touchstone Pictures‘ 1988 release Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Mickey’s Toontown is based on a 1930s cartoon aesthetic and is home to Disney’s most popular cartoon characters. Toontown features two main attractions: Gadget’s Go Coasterand Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin. The “city” is also home to cartoon character’s houses such as the house of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy, as well as Donald Duck‘s boat. The 3 ft (914 mm) gauge Jolly Trolley can also be found in this area, though it closed as an attraction in 2003 and is now present only for display purposes.During the 1955 inauguration Walt Disney dedicated Tomorrowland with these words: “Tomorrow can be a wonderful age. Our scientists today are opening the doors of the Space Age to achievements that will benefit our children and generations to come. The Tomorrowland attractions have been designed to give you an opportunity to participate in adventures that are a living blueprint of our future.”Disneyland producer Ward Kimball had rocket scientists Wernher von Braun, Willy Ley, and Heinz Haber serve as technical consultants during the original design of Tomorrowland.[28] Initial attractions included Rocket to the Moon, Astro-Jets and Autopia; later, the first incarnation of the Submarine Voyage was added. The area underwent a major transformation in 1967 to become New Tomorrowland, and then again in 1998 when its focus was changed to present a “retro-future” theme reminiscent of the illustrations of Jules Verne.Current attractions include Space MountainInnoventionsCaptain EO TributeAutopia, the Disneyland MonorailTomorrowland Station, Astro Orbitor, and Buzz Lightyear Astro BlastersFinding Nemo Submarine Voyage opened on June 11, 2007, resurrecting the original Submarine Voyage which closed in 1998. Star Tours was closed in July 2010, and replaced with Star Tours–The Adventures Continue in June 2010. Disneyland has a larger cumulative attendance than any other theme park in the world, with over 650 million guests since it opened. In 2013, the park hosted approximately 16.2 million guests, making it the third most visited park in the world that calendar year.[2][3] According to a March 2005 Disney Company report, 65,700 jobs are supported by the Disneyland Resort, including about 20,000 direct Disney employees and 3,800 third-party employees (independent contractors or their employees).[4   After all of that, we went on many rides, some of which are, Matterhorn, it’s a small  world, Indiana Jones, hyperspace mountain, and many others. These rides were very thrilling and exciting for us. Towards the end of the visit, we saw 2 more parades, and a very beautiful and famous, firework show, that is special to Disneyland. After enjoying the shows, we went on our final two rides, which were the amazing Matterhorn, and the Indiana Jones Adventure. After all, this was a very magical experience for all of us, and we enjoyed it very much. Because of our daughters family, we had such a good experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives
